This week I shared my requests for an updated Travel and Conference form for out-of-state travel and conference paid by the district. My two big asks: rationale and goals. Rationale means the justification for why an individual is asking for the funding and support to attend this conference, as in, what unique concepts or practical learning will he or she gain from attending that he or she cannot get from an in-state event? In addition, if more than two district staff members are making the request, it seems prudent to ask why each individual needs to go, rather than 1-2 individuals going and bringing back the information to share.  Secondly, goals could include 3-5 practical objectives that each attendee is hoping to glean at the event, and these should be specific to the fund that is paying the expenses.  In practicality, this is boots to the ground learning: how is the individual hoping to apply his or her experiences to his or her specific responsibilities?
