My two youngest daughters and I attended Meridian Elementary's Family Teacher Teams in the TK and Kinder classrooms this morning.  What a memory, to come back to that classic brick school that I attended from Kinder to 2nd as a child.   There were three great highlights from this site visit that I would like to share.  First, those TK and Kinder teachers are doing a amazing job focusing on the science of reading.  I saw many familiar elements, and it was obvious the teachers had invested daily time to teach and practice them with their students, and the students were so proud to share this learning with their families!  Second, I love the concept of a Family Teacher Team replacing the traditional Back-to-School night.  It's honestly what quality teachers do, getting to know the nuances of each child and family, and supporting parents in to their child's success as a whole, including citizenship and learning.  And third, it was obvious that Principal Lee was trusted and respected, knowing so many by name as she efficiently traversed the campus supporting staff, students, and parents.  To finish up the site tour, I saw Beable in action and had an insightful conversation about instruction based on daily data.  So many old elements from my time as a student, as well as new!
