Having lived in El Cajon for the majority of my 42 years, I have seen Cajon Valley Middle School morph over the years, but this was the first time I had entered the campus since it was rebuilt in 2011.  It was an honor to tour CVMS and speak with staff and students, as well as get the chance to see the excellent teaching and devoted learning happening here.  Principal Geck was phenomenal not only in his knowledge of each integral issue affecting the students, staff, and community and they coalesce at CVMS, but his passion for providing an excellent education and giving each student the opportunity to succeed in every area is inspiring.  As we discussed the science of reading, it's easy to see why CVMS is piloting a literacy approach for the district.  I learned about the ways Cajon Valley Middle School is putting this research into practice across every classroom on campus and even was able to see it in action.  As a lover of language and a believer in the power of reading, I can't wait to see how this focused approach will impact not just the test scores at CVMS, but also the school culture and relationships between students and staff.  Greatness is in the works....
